TN Government has expedited the process and has chalked out a new plan to complete land acquisition for airport expansion programme in the state.The additional land requirement for the expansion of Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Tiruchi, Madurai and Thoothukudi airports, and the progress of ongoing land acquisition were reviewed.
Some of the projects reviewed were re-carpeting of the existing runway/taxiway at the Tuticorin airport; construction of a new integrated terminal building to cater to 700 peak-hour passengers and conversion of part of the old domestic terminal building as a common user domestic cargo terminal at Madurai airport; and extension and modification of the old integrated terminal building to cater to 625 peak-hour passengers at Coimbatore airport.
