Government of India is planning to develop a greenfield airport in Mincoy islands in Lakshwadeep Union Territory. The airport will also assist Indian Air Force to extend extend surveillance in the Arabian Sea. It would also provide a boost to tourism in the region.
It may be noted that, now there is only one airport, which is Agatti which serves only limited type of aircrafts. In January 2024, the Government of India has revived the proposal for the new airport.
