Aurangabad Airport (locally known as Chikalthana Airport) is operated by Airports Authority of India. The airport is popular as it is near world heritage tourism sites of Ajanta and Ellora caves. The airport runway was expanded in 2005. Now, plans are afoot to set up a cargo operations from old terminal. Its nearest airport Shridi has gone operational is set to lose some traffic.
In March 2020, the airport has been renamed as Chhatrapati Sambaji Maharaj Airport.
The newly upgraded terminal building can handle domestic as well as international traffic and has a capacity of handling 200 passengers in peak hour, while the international terminal can handle up to 150 passengers at one time. The international terminal is not operational as of now. The airport has a total of 20 check-in counters, 8 immigration counters, 3 custom counters and 2 security counters.
