Coimbatore International Airport is the 18th largest airport in the country in terms of passenger traffic. It started its operations in 1940 before that Sulur Airforce Base was used as airport for Coimbatore city. The airport was modernized in 2007 and New domestic and international divisions were added in 2010 to the already existing common terminal and an Instrument Landing System (ILS) was installed in 2008.
