Guwahati Airport is undergoing an expansion programme of its terminal with an investment of ₹ 13, 830 million. In March 2018, central government has sanctioned the project which involves construction of new terminal of 9,000sqm terminal which will conform to GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) 4-Star rating, 64 check-in counters, 16 self baggage drop counters and also 20 aircraft parking bays.
In March 2019, Adani Enterprises Ltd has won the bid for operating the airport by quoting a lower passenger fee bid of ₹ 160 /-
